Freshmen rally No. 16 South Carolina women past Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Freshmen reserves Destanni Henderson and Victaria Saxton had career days, scoring 19 points apiece, and No. 16 South Carolina took over in the fourth quarter on Sunday to defeat Arkansas 87-79.

Saxton was perfect, going 7 for 7 from the field and 5 for 5 from the foul line, and grabbed nine rebounds. Henderson was 7 of 11 with two 3-pointers, both in the fourth quarter when she also had a critical 3-point play and scored 12 points. Saxton had 10 points in the fourth quarter when the Gamecocks had their biggest quarter of the season, outscoring Arkansas 35-23.

After trailing the whole game, South Carolina took its first lead early in the fourth quarter on a block by Saxton that led to a Tyasha Harris finish on the other end that made it 59-58. The Razorbacks regained the lead on a basket by Chelsea Dungee before Harris it a 3-pointer. TaylahThomas tied it but Saxton and Harris combined for nine-straight points and South Carolina led 71-62 with 5:49 to go.

South Carolina (16-5, 8-1 Southeastern Conference), which has won 12 of 13 overall and 10 straight in the series, was 12 of 21 from the field and 8 of 12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter. Harris finished with 15 points and Alexis Jennings had 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Gamecocks had 12 of their 20 offensive rebounds and 13 of their 19 second-chance points in the second half.

Dungee had a career-high 32 points, her third straight game with at least 25 points, for the Razorbacks (16-7, 5-4) and Malica Monk had 25, just six in the second half.
