Julian Boyd has another torn ACL

Men's College Basketball, Liu Brooklyn Blackbirds

LIU Brooklyn star forward Julian Boyd has torn his right ACL for the second time in less than nine months, Blackbirds coach Jack Perri told ESPN.com Wednesday.

The injury occurred in July, and Perri said he is hopeful Boyd can return sometime during Northeast Conference play.

The 6-foot-7 forward, who tore his right ACL eight games into last season, was expected to challenge for NEC Player of the Year honors again, an award he won two years ago, when LIU Brooklyn won the league tournament.

Boyd was averaging 18.5 points and 6.1 rebounds at the time of the injury in December. He also missed the entire 2009-10 campaign because of a heart issue, and was granted a sixth year of eligibility this season.
