Ex-Redskins tight end Fred Davis now eligible to sign with any team

The NFL reinstated former Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis on Thursday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Davis, 29, is now eligible to sign with any team, effective immediately.

Pro Football Talk earlier reported Davis' reinstatement.

Davis was suspended indefinitely by the NFL in February 2014 for his second violation of the league's substance abuse policy. He said he was suspended for taking a supplement that included a banned substance. He says it wasn't for marijuana, which was the reason for his first suspension.

A day after his suspension was announced, he was charged in Virginia with driving under the influence.

Davis played for the Redskins from 2008 to 2013. He's unlikely to be back with the team.
