GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Damarious Randall, who bounced back from an early-season benching and led the Green Bay Packers in interceptions this past season, is undergoing hand surgery Monday, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Randall will need six to eight weeks to recover.
Randall, the Packers' first-round pick in 2015, led the team with four interceptions despite missing the final two games of the season because of an injury, but it was to his knee and not his hand.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which was the first to report news of the surgery, said it was to repair a small bone that had been bothering Randall all season.
Randall led all Packers cornerbacks in playing time this past season despite an incident on the sideline during the Week 4 game against the Bears. He was sent to the locker room during the second half of the game after he was benched. Randall returned to the lineup the next week and had an interceptions in three straight games, including one that he returned for a touchdown against the Cowboys.
Randall, however, was critical of the Packers' defense and the coaching after a season in which defensive coordinator Dom Capers was fired.
It prompted coach Mike McCarthy to say, "You're talking about words of frustration. I'll tell you what I told Damarious, he needs to focus on himself. He's got to clean his own house. That's what I look for him to do in the offseason. He did a lot of really good things. We all understand what happened in the Chicago game, but I thought from the Chicago game on he played at a very high level. He probably played the best football of his career, but then he didn't play the last two games. He needs to go home and self-evaluate and clean his own house. We all need to clean our own house."
Randall is the second Packers defensive player to undergo surgery since the Packers' 7-9 season ended. Last week, linebacker Clay Matthews had his knee cleaned out, a source told ESPN.
