Broken arm knocks Patriots' Patrick Chung out of Super Bowl LIII

NFL, New England Patriots

ATLANTA -- New England Patriots starting safety Patrick Chung was knocked out of Super Bowl LIII with a right arm injury early in the third quarter, forcing him to miss the rest of New England's 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Chung, a 10-year veteran who was elected as a first-time captain in 2018, was writhing in pain on the turf after he was one of multiple defenders who tackled Rams running back Todd Gurley II on a 5-yard rush.

Chung suffered a broken arm on the play, ESPN confirmed.

A cart was brought out for Chung, but he walked to the locker room with an air cast as six-year veteran Duron Harmon came on to replace him in one package. Jonathan Jones also filled some of Chung's role.

Chung's 81 tackles in the regular season were second most on the team. He entered the Super Bowl having played all 109 defensive snaps in the playoffs.
