Olympic gold medalist Etienne Stott was arrested during climate change protests in London Sunday evening.
Stott, 39, became Olympic canoe slalom champion in London 2012 and he was awarded an MBE for his services to the sport in 2013.
He was pictured being carried from Waterloo Bridge by four police officers and shouted "ecological crisis."
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a total of 963 people had been arrested during the Extinction Rebellion protest as of 7pm BST on Sunday and 40 people have been charged.
Speaking at the protests on Saturday, Stott said: "I don't think there is anything more meaningful that I could be doing in my life right now.
"I feel like it is really tough to disrupt people's lives like this, but this is really important because I believe the disruption that will come down the line if we do not declare a climate emergency and do not tackle this situation of climate change, it will just dwarf any inconvenience here today."
