A recap of the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series season -- which consisted of 14,035.850 miles of racing -- in numbers:
1: Martin Truex Jr.'s rank among his competitors in wins (8), top-5s (19), top-10s (26), laps led (2,253) and average finish (9.417) among full-time drivers. The last driver to lead outright (with no ties) in all five of those categories in a season before Truex was Jeff Gordon in 2001. Before that, it was Dale Earnhardt in 1987.
2: Number of encumbered race wins in the Cup series -- Joey Logano at Richmond in April, Denny Hamlin at Darlington in September.
3: Number of first-time Cup winners this year: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (Talladega), Austin Dillon (Charlotte) and Ryan Blaney (Pocono). It was the most since 2011, when there were five first-time winners. Of those five, three have not won again (Paul Menard, Trevor Bayne, Regan Smith). The other two? They have won only once since (David Ragan and Marcos Ambrose).
4.3: Martin Truex Jr.'s average finish in the 10-race playoffs, breaking Carl Edwards' record (4.9 in 2011) for the best in a single postseason.
5: Number of second-place finishes for Chase Elliott, who has 22 top-5s in his career but seeks that first Cup victory. This is the third-most second-place finishes without a win for one season behind Harry Gant (seven in 1981) and Terry Labonte (six in 1982).
7: Career top-10s for Danica Patrick -- one came in 2017 -- as she has one race left (the 2018 Daytona 500) in her NASCAR career.
8: Number of race wins for Martin Truex Jr. in his championship season. Prior to this year, Truex had only seven wins; Furniture Row Racing had six.
11: Jimmie Johnson's career wins at Dover after his victory in June. He joined Richard Petty and Darrell Waltrip as the only drivers with at least 11 wins at a track.
12: Kyle Larson's top-2 finishes (four wins, eight second-place finishes) this season, a mark only Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have hit since 2004.
15: Consecutive years Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won the NASCAR Most Popular Driver award. He holds the record for consecutive years winning the award and is one short (16, Bill Elliott) of the all-time mark.
18: Number of points races that had full 40-car fields. Also the number of races that didn't.
23: The winless streak for Jimmie Johnson, one short of the longest of his career, as it stands at the end of the 2017 season.
32: Number of drivers who competed in all 36 Cup races.
35: Number of Cup points races that were completed on the day they were scheduled. The only race postponed was Bristol in April because of rain.
35.75: Average age of the Hendrick Motorsports drivers in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. When the 2018 Daytona 500 comes along and Alex Bowman and William Byron replace Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne, that average age is 27 (and it's 22 when not including Jimmie Johnson).
65: Number of combined career wins of Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt Jr., who likely both ran their final Cup races in 2017.
69: Number of "playoff points" Martin Truex Jr. earned throughout the year (doesn't include the final four races when playoff points no longer have value).
78: Laps Martin Truex Jr. led on the way to capturing the win at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the 2017 title. His car number also is 78. And it was the first time, ever, he had led exactly 78 laps in a Cup race.
93.51: Percentage of laps run on the lead lap by Denny Hamlin, the highest of any driver in the series. Of the 10,571 laps during the season, he was on the lead lap for 9,894 of them. Truex was second at 9,831.
185: Starts since Clint Bowyer's last win. Only two drivers have gone that many starts between wins (Bill Elliott, Martin Truex Jr.)
232: Races since the last win for Paul Menard, the longest streak of any full-time driver.
300: Both Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano won in their 300th career start.
2,023: Laps led by Kyle Busch in 2017.
2,253: Laps led by Martin Truex Jr. in 2017. It was the first time since 1989 that two drivers led more than 2,000 laps (Dale Earnhardt and Rusty Wallace). Truex's eight wins combined with more than 2,000 laps led is the first time a driver hit both those benchmarks since Jeff Gordon in 1996.
5,758: Laps led by Toyotas this year, 54.4 percent of all laps.
