England reviewing security as Hastings urges Jones abusers be 'named and shamed'

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) is reviewing its security procedures following the abuse that Eddie Jones suffered while travelling by train last Sunday.

Jones has vowed not to use public transport again after he was subjected to verbal and physical abuse on his journey from Edinburgh to watch Manchester United at Old Trafford, and again as he made his way home.

The England coach travelled alone in standard class on each journey, and the Evening Standard reported on Friday that he would be provided with a security detail in future.

However, ESPN understands that while the RFU is reviewing its security protocol no decision has yet been made on what steps will be taken to prevent a repeat of Sunday's incidents.

Video footage emerged on Thursday -- obtained by BBC Sport -- that shows Jones posing for selfies with Scottish fans in Manchester before the group turns on him, with one opening the door of a waiting car to call him a "baldy ----".

British Transport Police are investigating a report of verbal abuse against Jones following a separate incident that resulted in officers being sent to meet his train as it arrived in London Euston on Sunday evening.

Former Scotland and British & Irish Lions centre Scott Hastings branded the fans who directed the insults towards Jones as the "scum of the earth" as he called for the culprits to be named and shamed.

"It's terrible, absolutely ridiculous," Hastings told BBC Radio 5 Live. "I think a lot of Scotland rugby fans and former internationals just can't believe this thing happens in this day and age."

Jones has suggested comments made by Hastings' brother, Gavin, in the build-up to Scotland's victory last Saturday helped to foster an atmosphere of hate. He had said "you just want to rub [Jones'] face in the dirt".

"I'm not aware of what Gavin said, but these gentlemen, if you can even call them gentlemen, they should be named and shamed," Scott Hastings added.

"It is very unfair on Eddie Jones. He had a few boos after the game but I understand when they went to the after-match function they were very magnanimous and respectful. Unfortunately there are some unruly people who are scum of the earth.

"I have to get my point across. These people should be named, shamed and brought to the attention of the police."
