Wallaroos coach Dwayne Nestor has named experienced hooker Liz Patu as the sides new captain ahead of their Bledisloe Cup clash with the Black Ferns.

Patu will be joined by fellow Queensland teammate Sarah Riordan and Western Australia's Rebecca Clough as vice captains to make up the new leadership group.

Patu has 20 Test caps to her name and has made a huge impact for the side each time she's pulled on the gold jersey.

"Liz is an excellent player and great leader amongst the group and I'm really looking forward to seeing her grow with the captaincy of the Wallaroos," Nestor said. "Liz's work in the gold jersey speaks for itself and she is one of those tireless players that motors around the park all day.

"With great support from Rebecca, Sarah and the other leaders in the team, we have an excellent leadership group to take us forward in 2018."

The Wallaroos have entered camp in Canberra as they prepare for their two Test clash against the Black Ferns, with their opening match taking place on Saturday in Sydney in a historic double header with the Wallabies and All Blacks.

Patu said she was proud to take the reins ahead of the clash.

"I'm truly honoured to have been given this position and can't wait to continue this great journey with the team," Patu said. "We're building something special with this group and it's a really exciting time with the clashes New Zealand over the next two weeks."
