Scrum-half Danny Care is one of three players dropped from the England squad for the final November international against Australia on Saturday.

Centre Alex Lozowski and No. 8 Zach Mercer have also been omitted from Eddie Jones' 28-man squad to face the Wallabies in the final match of the series at Twickenham.

Manu Tuilagi is again included among the centres despite struggling with injury, while fly-half Piers Francis and No. 8 Nathan Hughes are brought back into the fold.

Uncapped Elliott Stooke and youngster Ted Hill are also selected.

England go into the clash with the Wallabies on the back of a 35-15 win over Japan on Saturday, but Jones' selection illustrates the difficulties England faced in a torrid first half.

Care scored England's first try early on but was heavily criticised for kicking out of play instead of mounting an attack before the break and was replaced after sixty minutes by the impressive Richard Wigglesworth.

Meanwhile Lozowski was taken off for Owen Farrell at half-time after a particularly poor 40 minutes, including a vital missed tackle that allowed Ryoto Nakamura to score.

Both look to have paid the price for their poor performances, while Mercer was also brought off early in the second half.

Tuilagi is yet to feature for England this month due to a groin injury and he could still miss out when the team is announced on Thursday after Jones admitted he still had work to do to get back to full fitness.

Wasps No. 8 Hughes returns after a six-week suspension for punching and conduct prejudicial to the game, but could make an insant return to the starting line-up in the absence of Billy Vunipola.

"He did a session on Friday and another yesterday and is not in bad nick," Jones said of Hughes. "We'll see how he is this week - he's in contention."

Northampton's Francis is back in with a chance of winning his first cap since the summer tour of South Africa but England Chris Ashton is being monitored after straining his calf.

England have enjoyed a mixed November campaign, edging past South Africa then impressing in a tight loss to the All Blacks before Saturday's win over Japan.

Jones will be looking for an immediate improvement from Saturday when his team were down 15-10 at halftime before coming through to win 35-15.

They are seeking a sixth successive victory over Australia, who ended their own poor run with a win in Italy.

"He's my old mate, he's always at his best when they're under pressure," Jones said of Australia coach Michael Cheika.

"He loves that, he's a street fighter, so it does make them dangerous but at the same time we've had a tough year too and we don't mind a scrap either, so it should be a good scrap.

"I think they understand where we're strong and we understand where they're strong, and it's going to be a battle of who can take away each other's strengths and find a way to probe their weaknesses."
