Scotland have made three changes to their Six Nations squad ahead of the opening match against Italy on the weekend.

Head coach Gregor Townsend has called up uncapped Glasgow centre Stafford McDowall, Warriors wing Rory Hughes and Edinburgh scrum-half Henry Pyrgos.

Glasgow trio Matt Smith, Alex Dunbar and Rob Harley - who were all selected to join up with the national team last week- have been released back to the club.

Smith picked up a shoulder injury in Glasgow's 9-3 victory against Ospreys at Scotstoun on Friday, whilst Jones sustained a knee injury.

Glasgow teammates Zander Fagerson and Fraser Brown will also join the squad in camp this week.

Scotland get their Six Nations campaign underway at Murrayfield against Italy on Feb. 2.
