Pete Horne will replace the injured Finn Rusell at fly-half in one of four enforced changes for Scotland ahead of their Six Nations match with France in Paris.
Horne has been called up to a starting XV hampered by injuries, with Russell the latest confirmed absentee after he suffered concussion playing for club side Racing 92.
Blair Kinghorn, who scored a hat-trick against Italy on the opening weekend, is recalled at full-back in place of Stuart Hogg, who has a shoulder injury.
Nick Grigg comes in at centre and Magnus Bradbury has been drafted in at flanker.
Head coach Gregor Townsend has been forced into a reshuffle since his side's 22-13 defeat to Ireland at Murrayfield in Round 2, with Hogg and Russell joining centre Huw Jones and flanker Ryan Wilson (both nursing knee injuries) on the sidelines, leaving resources stretched.
Horne usually plays at inside centre for his country, with just eight appearances at fly-half, six of those as a replacement. But he wears the No. 10 jersey for club side Glasgow Warriors and has plenty of international experience with 39 caps to his name.
Centre Grigg will win his seventh cap and in the forwards Bradbury will play in the Six Nations for the first time, but Townsend says he expects his players to step up to the challenge.
"Injuries create opportunities for others to show what they can do and, throughout the past couple of seasons, we've seen a number of players really step up.
"All of the players coming in started against Argentina in the summer, which ranks as one of our best ever away performances.
"On top of that there is cohesion forged through familiarity at club level - Magnus [Bradbury] in the back-row lines up with clubmate Jamie Ritchie, and Pete Horne and Nick Grigg are either side of Sam Johnson in the backs."
Josh Strauss has travelled to France and starts despite a scare over his availability earlier in the week when he lost his passport.
Scotland sit third in the Six Nations table after a 33-20 opening weekend win over Italy and the defeat to Ireland two weeks ago.
