Shoot Out champ McGill: 'No way' this should be a ranking event

Snooker

Shoot Out champion Anthony McGill has claimed the event is a "coin-toss tournament" that should not offer ranking points.

McGill beat Xiao Guodong of China 67-19 in the final of the four-day tournament which is in its first year as a ranking event.

The tournament features matches played over a single frame that can last no longer than 10 minutes. Players can take no longer than 15 seconds over each shot for the first five minutes, reduced to 10 seconds for the next five.

"In no way on God's earth should this be a ranking tournament," McGill said.

The Shoot Out victory gave McGill a second ranking title, having won the Indian Open last year.

"It is a coin-toss tournament," he said. "You never know what can happen but I'm extremely happy."
