Reanne Evans' campaign to become the first female at the World Championship is over for at least another year. The women's No. 1 found herself just two wins away from earning a place at The Crucible when she beat Robin Hull 10-8 -- only to be ousted 10-6 by Lee Walker at Sheffield's Ponds Forge. The 31-year-old has won the women's World Championship an unprecedented 11 times but was unable to haul her way back into contention having trailed Walker 6-2 overnight; eventually succumbing in the evening session. The 1997 world champion, Irishman Ken Doherty, was unable to qualify and will join Jimmy White in losing his tour card for next season. Doherty was beaten 10-4 by Leicester's Ben Woollaston. Also relegated from the tour is Thailand's Dechawat Poomjaeng, who was outgunned 10-4 by 2006 world champion Graeme Dott.
