Andre-Pierre Gignac agrees to extension with Liga MX side Tigres

Andre-Pierre Gignac said on Tuesday that he has agreed to an extension with Liga MX side Tigres.

"I am staying home," the former France international wrote on Twitter. "Mexico and its people, especially my city of Monterrey, have received me from day one with much care and made me feel at home."

Terms or length of the deal were not disclosed.

Gignac joined the club in 2015 after leaving Marseille and has established himself as a star in Mexico's top division. He has guided Tigres to three Liga MX titles and was part of the side that were runners-up in the 2015 Copa Libertadores.

He won Liga MX's 2015-16 Balon de Oro award and currently leads the league in goals with 14. At 94 goals scored across all competitions, Gignac is eight goals shy of tying Tomas Boy's franchise record.

Tigres play Chivas this weekend in the regular season finale, with a win clinching a spot in the upcoming playoffs.
