Diego Simeone hints at Atletico Madrid stay as Audi Cup unveiled

Diego Simeone says "it seems" he will be staying on as Atletico Madrid coach amid reports linking him to a move to Inter Milan.

Speculation increased this week that Simeone, a former player at Inter, could take over the Nerazzurri after Stefano Pioli was sacked, and the Argentine on Wednesday demurred when asked about his future.

But speaking -- via hologram -- at a news conference for this summer's Audi Cup, Simeone said he did not have plans to change clubs before the event in August.

"We are talking to you, so it seems I will be the manager next season if everything goes right with the club," he said. "We will see each other in Germany very soon.

Atletico will face Bayern Munich, Liverpool and a club still to be named -- reportedly AC Milan -- on Aug. 1 and 2, it was confirmed on Friday.

"We're delighted that we've been invited," Simeone said. "It's a testament to the good things we've achieved in recent years. It's a good chance for us to prepare for what we'll face during the season."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp also appeared by hologram and said his side would not take the event likely.

"With this tournament coming 12 or 14 days before our season starts it has very high relevance," Klopp said. "By then we will have been back in training for more than one month. You can only find out where you are when you play against the best teams.

"Bayern and Atletico are certainly two of the best. It's a great tournament in a great stadium. It's always sold out and the atmosphere will be great."

Bayern's Carlo Ancelotti was the only manager to appear in person.

"It's an important tournament with prominent teams," Ancelotti said. "It'll be a very good test which will enable us to give a good assessment of the team."
