Belgium lead new FIFA World Ranking by single point from France

Belgium will end 2018 atop FIFA World Ranking, with World Cup winners France coming in at No. 2.

FIFA say Belgium are a single ranking point -- 1,727 to 1,726 -- ahead of France, who knocked Roberto Martinez's side out of the World Cup at the semifinal stage.

Brazil are at No. 3 and World Cup runners-up Croatia are at No. 4 in a mostly unchanged monthly ranking.

England and Portugal, who both qualified for the UEFA Nations League finals, are fifth and sixth respectively.

Uruguay, Switzerland, Spain, and Denmark complete the top 10.

Iran at No. 29 will be the highest-ranked Asian team at the Asian Cup starting on Jan. 5, while Qatar, hosts of the 2022 World Cup, are at No. 93.

Senegal are Africa's best team at No. 23, and Mexico leads the CONCACAF region sides at No. 17, with the United States at No. 25.
