The Confederation of African Football have accepted Equatorial Guinea's appeal against their ban for the upcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations, duly reinstating the Central Africans at the expense of Kenya. Only nine days before the tournament kicks off in Ghana, CAF issued a statement revealing that Equatorial Guinea had successfully appealed against their ban for fielding an ineligible player. The Equatoguineans were replaced by the Harambee Starlets on October 18 after Kenya protested the eligibility of six of their players. CAF duly found that Anette Jacky Messomo was allegedly of Cameroonian nationality, and subsequently fined Equatorial Guinea $10,0000 for fielding her. However, their statement on Wednesday reverses this decision, with CAF deeming that Messomo is eligible to represent EG. Kenya had been drawn in AWCON Group B alongside Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia. The news may come as something of a relief for the cash-strapped Kenyan federation, who revealed on Tuesday that they were considering pulling their side out of the AWCON due to a lack of funds.
