Marseille boss Marcelo Bielsa 'helps out Newell's with €1.6m donation'

Marseille coach Marcelo Bielsa has given 1.6 million euros to help his former club Newell's Old Boys, according to Argentine newspaper Clarin.

After a slow start to his tenure at the Stade Velodrome, Bielsa has steered OM five points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table thanks to seven successive wins.

The Argentine has not, however, forgotten his hometown club Newell's, where he started his short-lived playing career in the late 1970s and his coaching career with a two-year tenure between 1990 and 1992.

According to Clarin, Bielsa has donated a sum of money which will contribute to the building of a four-storey hotel next to the Rosario club's training centre.

The hotel, which can accommodate up to 36 players, will be used by the squad before games. The work, which has already started, is expected to be completed by September 2015.
