Edgar Castillo will head to the New England Revolution, Kelyn Rowe will go to Sporting Kansas City, and Diego Rubio will play for Colorado Rapids following two trades on Tuesday involving the three clubs.
The Revolution acquired Castillo for Rowe from Colorado. The Rapids then sent Rowe, $200,000 in general allocation money, and $100,000 in target allocation money to Kansas City for Rubio.
Castillo made 28 starts for Colorado under Anthony Hudson in his debut MLS season following a long career in Liga MX. He is one of only two players ever to earn senior caps from both nations.
Rowe has started 167 of 214 appearances in MLS play since being selected third overall by the Revolution in the 2012 draft. He has 30 goals and 42 assists the past seven seasons.
The 25-year-old Rubio, who was entering the final year of his contract, scored 15 goals in 51 regular-season MLS games for Sporting KC. He also had two goals in the MLS Cup Playoffs after he was acquire two years ago from Real Valladolid in the Spanish second division.
Earlier Tuesday, Sporting KC signed Hungarian defender Botond Barath to a two-year contract with an option for 2021. Barath will occupy an international roster spot.
