Chelsea loanee Alexandre Pato too expensive for Sao Paulo - director

Sao Paulo have emerged as a potential suitor for Chelsea winter loanee Alexandre Pato this summer, but have admitted it will be difficult to sign the Brazilian given their financial realities.

The 26-year-old ex-AC Milan man played for two seasons with Sao Paulo while on loan from parent club Corinthians. There he regained the form that once placed him among the most promising young players in world football.

However, an unsuccessful loan spell with the Premier League club has thrown his future in doubt, with new Blues boss Antonio Conte not expected to keep Pato at the club for next season.

Sao Paulo will be in the market for big-name forward in the upcoming transfer window as star striker Jonathan Calleri is almost certain for a move to Europe.

The former Brazil international, whose contract with Corinthians runs out in December 2016, appears too expensive for the Morumbi club, said football director Luiz Cunha.

"It is obvious with current values and our financial situation that it is very difficult for us to sign him," Cunha told Brazilian outlet Lance on Friday.

"But, as with every great player, we will monitor what happens.

"And if the price gets cheaper, then yes we can think of something more concrete."

Pato, who has stated his preference to remain in Europe for next season, appeared in just two matches for Chelsea since joining in January, scoring one goal.
