Strugglers Platinum Stars, SuperSport United play to dull draw

PSL strugglers Platinum Stars and SuperSport United played out to a disappointing 0-0 draw at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Tuesday.

Both sides looked more fearful of defeat rather than trying to go for a win, which did not make for a great spectacle, although the point is probably more valuable for SuperSport.

Stars remain rooted to the foot of the table with 17 points from 21 games, four behind Ajax Cape Town in the relative safety of the relegation play-off position.

They are five behind Polokwane City in 14th, while SuperSport, surprise strugglers this season, are now four points ahead of Ajax.

There was little goal-mouth action in the first half, bar a good save from SuperSport goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse to deny Letsie Koapeng.

Teenager Charles Baloyi came close to the opener for the home side early in the second period, but his shot squirmed just wide, while the best chance of the game fell to Mogakolodi Ngele.

The former Stars player recently joined SuperSport on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, and could have driven a nail into Dikwena's relegation coffin with a winner, but saw his rasping effort brilliant saved by home keeper Dino Visser.

Next up for Stars is a difficult away trip to Maritzburg United on Friday, while SuperSport have the Tshwane Derby against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

There will also be one Absa Premiership match played on Wednesday as Sundowns host high-flying Free State Stars, looking to extend their four-point lead at the top of the table.
