Forward Alexis Jennings transfers from Kentucky to South Carolina

Former Kentucky Wildcats forward Alexis Jennings has transferred to South Carolina, Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley announced Wednesday.

Jennings, who averaged 10.0 points and 7.1 rebounds for the Wildcats last season, will have two years of eligibility beginning in 2017-18. Under NCAA rules, she will have to sit out the 2016-17 season.

Staley said Jennings is a proven, versatile player.

"Her ability to score with her back to the basket and stretch the floor with her 3-point shot makes us instantly better," Staley said in a statement.

A 6-foot-2 sophomore, Jennings played two seasons at Kentucky and had six double-doubles last season. She started 21 of 67 career games in Lexington.

Jennings is the seventh Kentucky player to transfer since last fall. Former Kentucky freshman Batouly Camara announced she was transferring to UConn in late May.
