D-Day: Daniher the key as deadline looms

Essendon and Sydney remain at loggerheads over Joe Daniher, but Bradley Hill's contentious switch from Fremantle to St Kilda has been finalised as the deadline of the AFL trade period looms.

After days of tense negotiations, the Saints sent Blake Acres, picks 10, 58 and future second and fourth-round picks to the Dockers for Hill and a future third-rounder.

Representatives from all AFL clubs have arrived at Marvel Stadium to thrash out deals before Wednesday's 7.30pm AEDT deadline.

The Swans must come to the party with a blockbuster deal if they are to prise contracted star Daniher away from the Bombers, according to list manager Adrian Dodoro, who spoke briefly to reporters on the way into the trade room.

"Certainly ... they have to," Dodoro replied when asked if Sydney had to come to the party.

Dodoro said there had been no movement on a trade overnight between the clubs and confirmed the Swans have not offered picks five and nine in a deal for Daniher.

The Bombers are unimpressed with the offer of picks five and 25 from Sydney and maintain they will hold Daniher to the final year of his contract, despite his publicly-stated desire to rejuvenate his career at Sydney.

In further trade paperwork lodged after the 3pm AEDT start of the final day of trade period, St Kilda's Jack Steven joined Geelong for pick 58, Brisbane's Lewis Taylor joined the Swans for pick 48 and Zac Smith returned to Gold Coast.

Alex Keath's move to the Western Bulldogs and finding a home for Josh Jenkins remain on Adelaide's agenda after they shipped Hugh Greenwood to Gold Coast and Sam Jacobs to GWS on Tuesday.

Carlton are still working on securing Jack Martin from the Suns and Tom Papley from Sydney.

The Blues have offered a future second-round pick for Martin but Gold Coast require a first-rounder for his services.

The Dogs are looking to add Josh Bruce from St Kilda but are yet to agree to terms.
