AFL confirms nine millionaires in 2019

Two AFL players earned more than $1.2 million last year, with a total of nine superstars making at least seven figures.

Brownlow medallists Nat Fyfe and Dustin Martin are definitely members of the million-dollar club, as is Sydney forward Lance Franklin.

Figures released by the league on Tuesday revealed nine listed players received payments of more than a $1 million, but only eight those took to the field in 2019.

Western Bulldogs premiership hero Tom Boyd retired mid-season still with more than two years to run on a mega deal, while 2018 Brownlow medallist Tom Mitchell missed Hawthorn's entire campaign because of a broken leg.

The AFL's millionaires jumped back to the same number as 2017, with six listed in 2018.

The last time an AFL player failed to earn more than a $1 million in a season was in 2014.

Back in 2012 there were four players who pocketed more than a $1.2 million.

The gross total player payments across the 18 clubs was $242.3 million in 2019 - up 0.8 per cent on 2018.
