AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan has revealed that a decision on this season's grand final venue will be made next month. Speaking on 3AW this morning, McLachlan said he was uncertain where the final game of the year will be played. The AFL struck a mega deal with the Victorian government in 2018 that tied the grand final to the MCG until at last 2057. But the latest lockdown restrictions that have been implemented in metropolitan Melbourne, in response to the significant increase of coronavirus cases, means the AFL could be forced to move the grand final interstate.  "It's a bit of a non-answer because I don't know," McLachlan said. "Everything keeps changing and it sounds like we're sort of avoiding the question but it is real though, we don't know where we are going to be. "I've said everything I've said about the MCG being our home but if it wasn't, obviously there's great venues in every state. "There's great footy markets, those developing markets, as well as South Australia and WA. "It will be something I reckon we'll make a decision on in August sometime when we know more about how the landscape looks." The 10 Victorian-based clubs were forced to leave the state prior to borders shutting down earlier this week, with NSW and Queensland currently hosting all 18 teams. Reports have emerged earlier this week suggesting Sydney's ANZ Stadium -- not currently listed as an AFL venue -- is among the frontrunner to host this year's grand final. The last time an AFL grand final was not played at the MCG was in 1991, where Hawthorn defeated West Coast at Waverley Park.
