Davey stars in Pies' AFLW win over Cats

A Brianna Davey masterclass has propelled Collingwood to a commanding 29-point AFLW win over Geelong at a sold-out Victoria Park.

The Magpies moved to a 2-0 record with a 6.9 (45) to 2.4 (16) win on Saturday, Davey starring with 25 possessions and a goal.

The Cats started brightly but failed to kick a goal after quarter-time as they slipped to an 0-2 record that sees them bottom of the ladder.

Davey had plenty of willing helpers, with Brittany Bonnici (24 disposals), Ruby Schleicher (15 touches, one goal) and Sarah Rowe (15 touches, one goal) all prominent.

Geelong didn't score in the first three quarters of their 62-point thumping by North Melbourne in round one, but were out of the blocks quickly against the Pies with a goal inside the first minute.

In her AFLW debut, Olivia Barber reacted quickest in a desperate goal line scramble to toe poke through with her first kick at the elite level.

Madeleine Boyd added Geelong's second in an impressive opening term, but mental lapses proved costly.

The Magpies trailed by just two points at the first break after Schleicher goaled following a 50m penalty and Mikala Cann split the middle after back-to-back 50m penalties marched her from the wing to the goal line.

Collingwood snatched the momentum in the second quarter, but largely failed to capitalise on repeated forward 50 entries.

A superb Chloe Molloy snap gave the Pies their only goal for the term as they edged out to a seven-point lead at halftime.

Both sides went goalless in the third term, but Geelong were still in with a chance heading into the last quarter 10 points down.

However, Davey's class shone through, the on-baller expertly gathering a loose ball and stroking home the opening goal of the term and then streaming from the centre square from the restart to set up Rowe's brilliant major.

Rebecca Webster led the way with 18 possessions for the Cats, with Aata O'Connor and Olivia Purcell each finishing with 16 disposals.
