Al Unser Jr. just hopes to be there at the end of 200 laps with a chance to win on Sunday.
INDIANAPOLIS -- Our biggest challenge on Sunday is going to be the same as every other
driver -- being there at the finish and trying to get there before everyone else.
The car performed well on Carburetion Day. The focus was getting a race-day setup and I wanted to make sure everything felt comfortable. I don't have to tell you this, but 500 miles is a long race, and to be able to make the car and a motor last for 500 miles a big accomplishment -- win or lose. The guys have been working hard to make our car ready to last the full 500 miles come Sunday.
Although a lot has been said about my return to Indianapolis, I don't really feel all that different about this one. Don't get me wrong, I feel really good to be back. But each Indianapolis 500 that I've raced in has been a big deal, but it sure feels good to
be back. But all that hoopla is over, it is time to get down to business and focus on tomorrow's race (ABC, 11 a.m. ET).
The response from all of the fans has been unbelievable for me back here. I have enjoyed meeting many of the fans that have supported the Unser family over the years. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a very special place, and
being here means everything to me. Every day has been a good day for me here
and really I have just been soaking everything up.
As for who will win Sunday? There are quite a few drivers in the field that can win this thing. It
is a long race, and anyone that is there at the end and is up towards the
front should have a good chance.
The competition here is closer than anything that I have seen, and it is going to be one heck of a show. I think
we will see a lot of great wheel-to-wheel racing on Sunday.
I hope to be leading that trail of cars on lap 200 once again.
