Calvin Abueva to sign 3-year deal with Phoenix

Calvin Abueva is set to sign a fresh three-year deal with Phoenix, team manager Paolo Bugia confirmed to ESPN5.com on Tuesday.

"3 years agreed in principle set to sign (today)," Bugia, who did not divulge details of the deal, said in a text message.

Abueva helped the Fuel Masters reach the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals. The team, though, fell prey to TNT Tropang GIga to end its dream run in the Bubble in Clark, Pampanga.

It was only the second time the Phoenix franchise made it that far after buying the Barako Bull franchise in 2016.

Abueva, who was coming off a 16-month ban, was at the forefront of Phoenix's rise to second place at the end of the elimination round. He wound up up second in the statistical race behind Bobby Ray Parks with 37.1 SPs after averaging 15.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.
