Beyond David Johnson, Cardinals content with running backs

TEMPE, Ariz. -- As of now, it appears the Cardinals are content with entering the season with Kerwynn Williams, T.J. Logan, Eli Penny and Andre Ellington as the back-up contingent behind star running back David Johnson.

Of course, don’t be surprised if Arizona brings in a veteran, whether it’s a familiar face or someone new, to help relieve Johnson when he needs a spell. Will the Cardinals make a move for such an experienced back by camp? Hard to say, but it's doubtful.

This could be a case of Chris Johnson just not wanting to go through offseason workouts, which is common for veterans at any position. This could also be a case of Arizona not knowing what they have in Logan or Penny until they put on pads, which won’t be until the third day of training camp. After that, the team may see a need to bring in a veteran. Or the Cardinals’ brass may like what they see and not make any additions.

For now, at least, the Cards are preparing Johnson’s supporting cast with who they have.
