Ravens make five more moves to get down to 77 players

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens only need to make two more moves to get down to the league-mandated 75-player limit on Tuesday afternoon.

After making eight cuts earlier Monday, the Ravens placed four players on injured reserve -- safety Matt Elam (biceps), cornerback Chris Greenwood (hamstring), linebacker Steven Means (groin) and tight end Allen Reisner (ankle) -- and put offensive tackle Darryl Baldwin (undisclosed) on the reserve Non-Football Injury list, according to ESPN Insider Field Yates. These designations ends all of their seasons.

The next two moves could also be injury-related ones. The Ravens can move tight end Dennis Pitta (hip) to the reserve Physically Unable to Perform list, which would sideline him for at least the first six games of the season. Coach John Harbaugh indicated two weeks ago that was Baltimore's plan for Pitta.

There are also two players dealing with significant injuries: defensive end Brent Urban (biceps) and offensive tackle De'Ondre Wesley (knee). Urban had surgery on Aug. 11 and will need 12 to 14 weeks to recover. It's still possible that the Ravens use the short-term injured reserve designation on him. Wesley will also undergo surgery to repair meniscus in his knee, according to a league source.

The last major round of cuts are approaching quickly. Teams must get down to the 53-player limit by Sept. 5.
