Elvis Dumervil ready to be 'extra arsenal' for NFL's top-ranked defense

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- It's looking like the NFL's top-ranked defense is going to get back its sack leader from the past two seasons.

Linebacker Elvis Dumervil has had full participation in practice this week, which is a good sign that he will return to play against Dallas on Sunday. Dumervil has missed the past four games with a foot injury.

"I'm feeling really close to where I'm normally at," Dumervil said.

Dumervil, who ranks fourth among all players with 96 sacks since 2006, said the final decision on whether he plays will be made by coach John Harbaugh and the doctors.

He was sidelined for the first three games of the season before returning for two ineffective games. He had no sacks and one quarterback hit.

Dumervil acknowledged that the strength wasn't there when he came back last month.

"The last time, as a competitor and as a winner, you just want to go out there," Dumervil said. "Sometimes, it's good to listen. I learned that."

Without Dumervil for most of the season, the Ravens are tied for 10th in the NFL with 22 sacks. Baltimore has been using Za'Darius Smith and Matt Judon at the edge-rusher opposite Terrell Suggs. The last time Dumervil and Suggs played an entire season together, they were the NFL's top sacks duo.

Dumervil's return is timely, because the Ravens are playing Cowboys rookie quarterback Dak Prescott, who has only been sacked 14 times this season. That's tied for the fourth-fewest among quarterbacks with at least 250 pass attempts.

"I feel really good. I feel confident," Dumervil said. "I'm happy to be a part of a No. 1 defense. Hopefully, I can be an extra arsenal."
