Finebaum: Baylor should contend this year (0:43)

Paul Finebaum is optimistic about Baylor's chances to contend for the Big 12 this year, however, Finebaum predicts the program will fall apart next year. (0:43)

After a lengthy summer hiatus, the Big 12 recruiting scorecard is back. We have a lot to update. Here's the latest:

Total commits: 1

ESPN 300 commits: 0

The latest: The Bears' 2017 class is down to one commit: three-star DB Jalen Pitre. A few former Baylor commits have made pledges to other schools: ESPN 300 QB Kellen Mond is heading to Texas A&M, and ESPN 300 WR Jhamon Ausbon recently picked LSU. Jim Grobe will hold the first recruiting camps since taking over as head coach later this week.

Total commits: 16

ESPN 300 commits: 0

The latest: Iowa State is building a class from all over the country. The Cyclones now have commits from players in 11 states thus far. The latest came from DE Deven Lamp (Texas), DB Jordan Ulmer (Michigan), OL Alex Kleinow (Iowa) and TE Charlie Kolar (Oklahoma), the brother of Oklahoma State QB John Kolar.

Total commits: 12

ESPN 300 commits: 0

The latest: The Jayhawks now have a dozen commits thanks to hunting in Texas and Louisiana for sleepers. Kansas added commitments from a pair of defensive ends, Troy James and junior college transfer Jamie Tago, as well as a pair of defensive backs: Robert Topps and Akayleb Evans. A sign they're evaluating well: former Kansas commit OL Grant Polley recently moved into the ESPN 300.

Total commits: 8

ESPN 300 commits: 0

The latest: Kansas State class is stockpiling offensive linemen. The Wildcats have picked up commitments from Josh Rivas, Aidan Mills, Harrison Creed, Ben Adler and Bill Kuduk. They've also got a rusher to block for now after picking up RB Bernard Goodwater out of Dallas.

Total commits: 15

ESPN 300 commits: 9

The latest: The Sooners had eight commits qualify for The Opening and all eight won the event's 7-on-7 title together Sunday for Team Vapor Speed. That opportunity for Chris Robison, Jalen Reagor, Grant Calcaterra, Levi Draper, Trajan Bandy, Justin Broiles, Tre Brown and Robert Barnes to build camaraderie together and recruit together should be huge for this class.

Total commits: 15

ESPN 300 commits: 1

The latest: Oklahoma State has found quality under-recruited talent in the state of Texas recently with commitments from four-star DB Lamarcus Morton, OL Dan Moore, OL Derek Kerstetter, DE Spencer Misko and DB Kris McCune. The Pokes also had their top-rated recruit, ESPN 300 WR Tylan Wallace, representing them at The Opening over the weekend.

Total commits: 8

ESPN 300 commits: 4

The latest: The Horned Frogs picked up a great late addition to their 2016 class in DE Brandon Bowen, the former Baylor signee who was released from his national letter of intent. TCU's defensive class for 2017 is coming along nicely, too. Commits James Lynch and Josh Thompson earned spots at The Opening, and DB commit Tristan Ebner recently moved into the ESPN 300.

Total commits: 7

ESPN 300 commits: 5

The latest: After landing four former Baylor signees to add to its top-10 ranked 2016 class, Texas is expected to sign a smaller class in 2017. A few of their seven commits appear to be looking around right now. OL Xavier Newman is reportedly contemplating a flip to Oklahoma, and ESPN 300 TE commit Major Tennison is high on Alabama at the moment.

Total commits: 12

ESPN 300 commits: 1

The latest: The Red Raiders got this class rolling with seven new commitments in June. An offensive line class is coming together that has a chance to be pretty good. The staff already had No. 1 OG Jack Anderson and added pledges from Will Farrar (a former UCLA commit) as well as Casey Verhulst, Jared Hocker and Dylan Weaver. Defensive back Adam Beck, a former Houston pledge, was another nice flip.

Total commits: 9

ESPN 300 commits: 0

The latest: The Mountaineers battled Michigan for WR Michael Harley and won. The coveted pass-catcher out of Florida should be a quality threat in the slot. West Virginia does have just one commit up front, from Florida OG Cody Bowes, but Dana Holgorsen and his staff have picked up nice athletes thus far.
