CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox made it official Monday, announcing Carlos Rodon has been called up to the major league team for the first time.

In addition to Rodon’s arrival, right-hander Jake Petricka has been reinstated from the disabled list. Petricka had been on the DL since the start of the season with right forearm soreness.

To make room on the roster, right-hander Javy Guerra was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 13) with right shoulder inflammation. Kyle Drabek, who the White Sox claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays in late March, was designated for assignment.

Rodon will start his major league career as a reliever, with his arrival and Petricka's return providing a significant boost to the White Sox’s bullpen.

Rodon was the White Sox’s first-round draft pick in 2014 and third overall selection in the draft. The 22-year-old is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA and 13 strikeouts over two starts at Triple-A Charlotte this season. He is the White Sox’s top-ranked prospect and was listed as the 12th-best prospect in baseball when the season started by ESPN.com’s Keith Law.
