2B Micah Johnson added to White Sox's roster

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox boosted their active roster to 31 players Tuesday when they recalled second baseman Micah Johnson from Triple-A Charlotte.

Major league rosters were eligible to be expanded in September from the regular 25-man setup. The requirement for expanded rosters is that all players added must be on the club’s 40-man roster.

Johnson becomes the sixth player added. On Sept. 1, the White Sox called up pitchers Frankie Montas and Erik Johnson, catcher Rob Brantly and utility man Leury Garcia. On Saturday, the White Sox claimed third baseman Mike Olt off waivers from the Chicago Cubs and added him to the roster.

When the season started, Johnson was the White Sox’s starting second baseman, but his struggles on defense led to his demotion. He batted .270 with a .333 on-base percentage in 27 games to open the season before he was replaced at second base by Carlos Sanchez.
