CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Bengals starting cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick did not practice on Tuesday, the second straight day he was held out. Kirkpatrick was a spectator during the Bengals' walkthrough during the portion of practice open to the media.

Although the Bengals are limited to walkthroughs this week with a game against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, Kirkpatrick's absence might be a bad sign in regards to his playing chances. Of course, the Bengals also could be giving him as much rest as possible so he could go on Thursday.

Kirkpatrick was listed with a calf strain against the Denver Broncos, and he said afterward that he experienced some cramping. He is listed with a hamstring issue on the injury report.

"I don't know," he said, when asked if it would affect him going forward. "They gave me some meds, and hopefully they can get me back going by Thursday."

Darqeuze Dennard or Josh Shaw would be the likely candidates to replace Kirkpatrick on the outside if he can't play Thursday.

Safety Derron Smith (chest) also did not practice. Tight end Tyler Eifert, who is not expected to play Thursday, according to ESPN's Bob Holtzman, was limited. Safety Shawn Williams (knee) was also limited.

Safety George Illoka (shoulder), defensive tackle Pat Sims (Achilles) and wide receiver James Wright (knee) were full participants after being limited on Monday.
