A look at the Rangers position players

This morning we looked at the pitchers on Rangers 40-man roster.

Now we look at the position players:

Catchers:

Robinson Chirinos: Made 88 starts at catcher and goes into the season as the No. 1 man at his position. His 13 home runs tied for second on the team and were the sixth most in AL at catcher.

Tomas Telis: In just 18 games, Telis had a hit in 13 of them but struggled at throwing out runners. Base runners were 16-of-17 against him, but the Rangers liked how he called a game.

Infielders:

SS Elvis Andrus: Played a team-leading 157 games where he produced a career-high 35 doubles. The No. 2 man in the lineup needs a much better 2015 season.

3B Adrian Beltre: The MVP of the team was third in the AL with a .388 OBP and fourth in BA at .324. As he gets older, you wonder if he can keep this up. Probably.

1B Prince Fielder: Participated in just 42 games before a herniated disc in neck ended his season. He had played in 547 consecutive games before his health gave way. The Rangers need his power more than ever now.

1B/DH Mitch Moreland: Underwent ankle surgery after 52 games and the Rangers need his bat. He's not Fielder, of course, but they need some production from him.

2B Roughned Odor: The projected starting second baseman played in 106 games last season and hit .304 the last 26 games. Just needs to make the basic plays more often and continue his chemistry with Andrus.

2B Jurickson Profar: Missed the season with a shoulder injury and suffered a setback during his rehab. He's lost the starting job to Odor, so what's next?

UTL Adam Rosales: He started in 31 of the last 36 games and proved he puts the ball in play on a consistent basis. Worth keeping around.

UTL Ryan Rua: Hit .338 with 12 RBIs in the last 20 games. Has a good bat but can't play the outfield. He's a infielder mainly and deserves an opportunity to make the roster.

SS Luis Sardinas: Played with the club three different times in 2012 and hit .201. Not ready for prime time.

Outfield:

LF Jim Adduci: Hit .168/.239/.228 last season and battled through some injuries. He's battling for the No. 4 outfielder spot next season.

LF Michael Choice: The Arlington native made the opening day roster, but it's uncertain if he'll do that again. Hit .182 last season.

LF Shin-Soo Choo: He might change positions on the field and in the lineup. He's had surgeries on his ankle and elbow but should be ready for spring training. Choo struck out a team-leading 131 times.

CF Leonys Martin: Second in the big leagues with 17 bunt hits and had a .354 OBP as the leadoff hitter. Can he do it full-time? Rangers hope so.

LF/RF Daniel Robertson: Played all three outfield spots and had a a .333 OBP in 70 games.

LF Jake Smolinski: Corner outfielder had zero errors in 41 chances and produced seven RBIs in last 13 games. Could be No. 4 outfielder.
