ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- As the Denver Broncos trimmed their roster to 53 players Saturday, executive vice president of football operations/general manager John Elway said the team has not been notified of any potential league discipline for cornerback Aqib Talib.

The NFL has investigated a June 5 shooting incident in Dallas in which Talib suffered two wounds to his right leg from one gunshot -- the bullet entered his right thigh and exited his right calf. The case has remained under investigation with the Dallas Police Department.

"We've heard nothing, so full speed ahead," Elway said Saturday. "We'll be very disappointed if we're told at this point in time.''

The Broncos have consistently said they were trying to get Talib ready to play until they heard anything from the league regarding discipline. Talib returned to practice for the first time on Aug. 8 and has practiced fully in recent weeks.

Talib played 20 snaps in the preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, but was removed from the lineup after an unnecessary roughness penalty when he hit Rams quarterback Case Keenum out of bounds.

If any discipline was in the offing for Talib from the league, the Broncos had hoped to hear before they made their cuts to get the roster to 53 players. Some within the team pointed to the difficulty in 2014 when Wes Welker was initially suspended four games -- it was later reduced -- after the team had trimmed its roster to 53 players.

Talib had opened training camp on the non-football injury list (NFI).
