Golden Tate teeing off with former receiver Wes Welker in American Century Championship

When Golden Tate is not playing football, more often than not, you can find him on a golf course.

The Detroit Lions receiver has openly talked about his love of golf -- something he shares with his fiancée, Elise Pollard, and other players on the Lions. He tries to play as much as possible during the offseason, so it’s not surprising where he’s spending this weekend, the last non-football weekend of 2016.

He’ll be in Lake Tahoe, playing in the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. He’ll tee off at 8 a.m. local time with former NFL receiver Wes Welker and Dallas Mavericks guard Deron Williams. That group is the second to tee off on the first tee, following his fellow Tennessee native, Justin Timberlake, and Alfonso Ribiero, best known as Carlton Banks from "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."

Among the other big names in the tournament are Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh (teeing off at 8:50 a.m. with Mark Rypien and Joe Theismann), Hall of Famers Jerry Rice, Tim Brown and Steve Young (all teeing off at 10 a.m. together) and Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers (teeing off with Carson Palmer and Brian Urlacher at 9:40 a.m.).

The total purse for the tournament is $600,000, with $125,000 for first place. Former major league pitcher Mark Mulder won last year’s event.

The first round of the tournament will be broadcast on NBCSN and online at 6 p.m. Eastern on Friday, then on NBC at 3 p.m. Eastern on Saturday and Sunday.
