DeRozan is on the mark for second straight game

DeMar DeRozan made five of his eight three-point field goal attempts and converted each of his 10 attempts from the free-throw line in a 35-point effort in Toronto’s victory on Wednesday. DeRozan’s performance came two days after he went 5-for-9 from three-point range and 13-for-13 from the line while scoring 52 points against the Bucks. DeRozan is the first player to make at least half of his three-point field-goal attempts and all of his free-throw attempts with at least eight attempts in each category in consecutive games since the NBA instituted the three-point shot in 1979-80.

Thunder give Lakers a beating in Los Angeles

The Thunder defeated the Lakers by a score of 133-96 in Los Angeles on Wednesday. That ties the second largest margin of victory any team has produced on the road against the Lakers. The Clippers beat the Lakers by 48 points at the Staples Center with the Clippers serving as the road team on March 6, 2014 and the St. Louis Hawks blasted the Minneapolis Lakers by 37 points at the Minneapolis Armory on November 1, 1959.

Westbrooks piles up the assists against the Lakers

Russell Westbrook produced 20 points and 12 assists leading the Thunder to a big win over the Lakers in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Westbrook has registered 12 or more assists in each of his last five games against the Lakers, becoming only the fourth player in NBA history with a streak of that kind against Los Angeles, joining Kevin Johnson (eight straight from 1988 to 1989), Chris Paul (six straight from 2012 to 2013) and Muggsy Bogues (five straight from 1993 to 1995).

Beal, Wall team up to beat Knicks

Bradley Beal scored 27 points and handed out six assists and backcourt mate John Wall registered 25 points and nine assists in the Wizards’ win over the Knicks on Wednesday. That marked the fifth time Beal and Wall each produced at least 25 points and five assists in the same game since January 1, 2017. Only one other pair of current teammates has done that at least five times over that span: Golden State’s Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant (seven times).

Curry’s late three gives Warriors a win

Stephen Curry’s three-point field goal with three seconds remaining gave the Warriors a win over the Mavericks on Wednesday. Curry has made three of his last four three-point field-goal attempts with a chance to give his team the lead in the final five seconds of the fourth quarter or overtime after missing each of the first four such shot attempts of his career.

Greek Freak does it all in Bucks win

Giannis Antetokounmpo produced 31 points, 10 rebounds and five assists leading the Bucks to a win over the Pacers on Wednesday. Antetokounmpo has registered at least 30 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in five games this season, tying DeMarcus Cousins, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and LeBron James for the league high in that category.

Antetokounmpo has produced twelve 30/10/5 games over the last two seasons. The Bucks had only 10 such games over the previous 31 seasons combined (1985-86 to 2015-16), and no Milwaukee player had done it more than once in a season during that time frame.

Olynyk leads Heat to win over the Pistons

Kelly Olynyk led Miami with 25 points and 13 rebounds in the team’s win over the Pistons on Wednesday. It marked the first time in his 315-regular season games that Olynyk was his team’s outright lead in both points and rebounds.

Harris ties Nuggets mark

Gary Harris scored 36 points and made 14 of his 17 field-goal attempts in the Nuggets’ victory over the Suns on Wednesday. Harris’s .824 field-goal percentage tied the highest by a Nuggets player in a game with 35 or more points since the team joined the NBA in 1976-77. George McGinnis was 14-for-17 from the field and scored 43 points against the Rockets in 1980 and Dan Issel was also 14-for-17 from the field while scoring 40 points against the Kings in 1977. There have been 389 35-point games in the Nuggets’ NBA history.

Harris is the first starting guard to make at least 80 percent of his field-goal attempts while scoring 35 or more points in exactly two years, since New York’s Arron Afflalo scored 38 points and made 14 of 17 field-goal attempts against the Hawks on January 3, 2016.

LeBron’s streak comes to an end in Boston

LeBron James was held to 19 points in the Cavaliers loss to the Celtics in Boston on Wednesday. That snapped James’ streak of 17 consecutive regular-season games with 20 or more points in Boston, which was the fifth longest such streak for any visiting player in NBA history, and the longest since Michael Jordan’s 18-game streak with 20 or more points on the Celtics’ home court from 1987 to 2001.

Green lifts Rockets with seven threes off the bench

Gerald Green made seven three-point field goals in a 27-point performance off the bench in Houston’s win over Orlando on Wednesday. Green became the second Rockets player to make at least seven three-pointers off the bench this season, joining Eric Gordon who made seven shots from beyond the arc as a reserve against Utah on December 18. No other team has had more than one such player this season. The Rockets were the only NBA team with multiple players with a game with seven or more threes off the bench last season (Gordon and Lou Williams).

Another dominant performance by Davis

Anthony Davis scored 29 points and hauled down 15 rebounds leading the Pelicans to a win over the Jazz on Wednesday. Davis has produced at least 25 points and 15 rebounds in the same game 30 times over the last three seasons. Those are by far the most such games for any NBA player over that span. Only two players have done that in more than half the games than Davis has since the start of the 2015-16 season: DeMarcus Cousins (24) and Karl-Anthony Towns (21).

Dinwiddie delivers a clutch performance for the Nets

Spencer Dinwiddie converted two key baskets late in the fourth quarter, one which gave the Nets a 96-94 lead with 1:11 remaining in the fourth quarter and the other a go-ahead jumper with 9.7 seconds remaining giving Brooklyn a 98-97 lead in a game it would go on to win by that score over Minnesota on Wednesday night. Dinwiddie entered the contest with a .396 overall field-goal percentage but was shooting over 50 percentage points higher -- .448 – in late-game pressure situations this season.

Athanasiou ties NHL overtime mark

Andreas Athanasiou scored his second goal of the game six seconds into overtime to give the Red Wings a 2–1 win over the Senators. Athanasiou tied the NHL record for the quickest overtime goal in a regular-season game. Three other players scored only six seconds after overtime began: Toronto’s Mats Sundin (Dec. 30, 1995 at St. Louis), Nashville’s David Legwand (March 9, 2006 at Vancouver) and Washington’s Alex Ovechkin (Dec. 15, 2006 at Atlanta). Athanasiou is the fourth player to tally at least two goals while scoring every goal for the Red Wings in a regular-season overtime victory. The other players to do that for Detroit are all in the Hall of Fame: Sergei Fedorov (Dec. 26, 1996: five goals), Brett Hull (Jan. 8, 2003: two goals) and Brendan Shanahan (March 14, 2004: three goals).

Blackhawks turn back pesky Rangers

Patrick Sharp’s goal at the 2:24 mark of the third period snapped a 2–2 tie and proved to be decisive for the Blackhawks in their 5–2 win over the Rangers in New York. Chicago had taken the lead twice before, on goals by Vinnie Hinostroza (1–0) and Nick Schmaltz (2–1), only to see the Rangers tie the score within three minutes both times. This was the first time that the Blackhawks scored three go-ahead goals in one game since Feb. 23, 2017, when Schmaltz, Ryan Hartman and Michal Rozsival produced tiebreaking goals in a 6–3 win against the Coyotes in Chicago.
