KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Punter Dustin Colquitt reminded me of something this week when I asked him about the possibility of tight end Travis Kelce having to serve as the emergency long snapper for the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay at Arrowhead Stadium.

Kelce has snapped in a game, albeit in the preseason, for the Chiefs before. Kelce snapped on a punt in the first quarter of a 2014 exhibition game against the Packers in Green Bay, just to give him some practice.

The Chiefs survived the ordeal just fine. With the Chiefs punting from the Green Bay 43, Colquitt handled the snap and dropped his kick inside the 10, where it was returned to the 14.

"We’ve seen what it looks like in a game," said Colquitt, who also serves as the holder for field goal and point-after-touchdown attempts. "So we have it on film. We know what to expect."

The Chiefs have also worked fullback Anthony Sherman as their snapper on field goals during practice this week. Field goals were an adventure at times with him snapping, to put it nicely.

The Chiefs might not need to turn to Kelce as a snapper on Sunday. The usual snapper, James Winchester, could return in time for Sunday’s game after returning home to Oklahoma this week after the death of his father.
