Anthony Lynn braced for candid commentary from Rex Ryan on 'MNF'

SAN DIEGO -- After eight seasons working together on the same coaching staff, former NFL head coach Rex Ryan should have some good stories about new Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn.

Ryan will get an opportunity to share those observations when he serves as the color analyst for the Chargers' "Monday Night Football" contest against the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority field in the regular-season opener on Sept. 11.

Lynn said he's prepared for Ryan's revelations, both good and bad.

"I’m sure he’ll have some pretty good comments," Lynn told reporters this week. "You know Rex."

Are there any stories Lynn doesn’t want Ryan to tell?

"Yeah, there's a few," he said, laughing. "But he'll probably tell them anyway."

Ryan joins ESPN play-by-play voice Beth Mowins, who will become the first female announcer to call an NFL game since 1987, and the first female broadcaster to call a nationally televised NFL game.

Gayle Sierens was the last woman to call an NFL game, a regional broadcast of a 1987 regular-season finale on NBC.

Lynn served as Ryan’s assistant head coach with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. Ryan's twin brother, Rob, was in attendance at the Chargers' first organized team activities workout on Tuesday this week.

"He lives here in town, so he may come to a couple of these," Lynn said about Rob Ryan. "Coaches come to these OTA practices just to see what's going on and try and stay up on their game. He called to see if could he come out, and I said no problem."

Rex Ryan's son, Seth, is working as a coaching intern with the Chargers this season. Seth Ryan played receiver at Clemson and joins fellow Tigers' receivers Mike Williams and Artavis Scott as part of the Chargers' organization.
