Jerick McKinnon ruled out for Vikings vs. Bears

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings won't have running back Jerick McKinnon on the field for Monday night's game against the Chicago Bears.

McKinnon was ruled out on Saturday with the ankle injury he sustained on a second-quarter run against the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday. He said Friday he was feeling better, and he sounded hopeful he'd be able to play against the Bears, but he didn't practice for a third straight day on Saturday. He was one of four Vikings ruled out for the game, joining wide receiver Jarius Wright (ankle), defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd (knee) and tight end MyCole Pruitt (knee).

Wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson hasn't cleared the NFL's concussion protocol yet, but coach Mike Zimmer said Saturday he expects Patterson will play Monday night against the Bears. Patterson was a limited participant on Saturday, indicating he is making progress as he tries to return from the concussion he sustained last week.

Both Patterson and punt returner Marcus Sherels (wrist) are questionable for the game, meaning the Vikings could be without one or both of their return men. If the Vikings are missing either player, wide receiver Adam Thielen could be the logical choice to step in on returns.
