MLB Rumor Central: Battle for Rockies' final roster spot

The Colorado Rockies learned Tuesday that utility infielder Daniel Descalso will miss a few weeks with an avulsion fracture of the left hand.

Assuming Descalso starts the season on the disabled list, the race for the final roster is between outfielder Brandon Barnes and super-utility man Rafael Ynoa, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com.

Descalso is entering the final year of a two-year, $3.6 million deal. He hit just .205 with a .283 OBP last season, but manager Walt Weiss likes his defensive skills. Descalso was in the discussion as a possible starting shortstop but is more likely to play a utility role behind either Trevor Story or Cristhian Adames.
