Despite talk that the Texas Rangers could have their eyes set on landing Jonathan Lucroy of the Milwaukee Brewers or Derek Norris of the San Diego Padres, GM Jon Daniels tells MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan that he's happy with the team's current situation at the catcher position.

"At this point I anticipate both our catchers are in camp," Daniels said. "We are open if there is a true improvement to the team, but we're not going to change for change's sake."

Sullivan notes that Texas believes the asking price for Lucroy and Norris is "too high right now," which explains the lack of a serious push to land either backstop despite a logical fit. As it stands, Robinson Chirinos is expected to be the Rangers' Opening Day catcher, while veterans Chris Gimenez, Bobby Wilson and Michael McKenry battle for the backup spot on the roster.

Another name to watch is prospect Brett Nicholas, who has made a "serious impression" during spring training, Sullivan writes.

Gimenez could be the favorite seeing as he is out of options and impressed enough last season to make the team's playoff roster.

"I think the last couple of weeks we're going to try and narrow it down and make decisions," Daniels said. "The first couple of weeks, guys were getting ready, getting their timing down and working on things. The last couple of weeks, we're going to start putting the ballclub together and see how the pieces fit."
