MLB Rumor Central: Cliff Pennington back to the DL?

Kirby Lee/USA TODAY Sports

Shortstop continues to be a black hole for the Los Angeles Angels.

Cliff Pennington, who came off the disabled list on Saturday, is probably headed back there after leaving Tuesday’s 11-9 win over the Detroit Tigers with a left hamstring strain, reports Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.

The latest setback likely means more at-bats for Gregorio Petit, who started at shortstop while Pennington was on the DL. As for a corresponding roster move, Fletcher suggests the Angels could promote Kaleb Cowart or bring back Brendan Ryan, who was recently outrighted to Triple-A.

The Angels are already without star shortstop Andrelton Simmons, who tore a ligament in his left thumb last month.
