MLB Rumor Central: Nationals want Aaron Barrett back

Despite undergoing three surgeries in the past two years, Aaron Barrett appears to be drawing strong interest on the free-agent market.

One of the teams pushing to sign him is his former club, the Washington Nationals, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.

Barrett, who will turn 29 in January, became a free agent after the Nats outrighted him off their roster in October. The right-hander missed the entire 2016 season recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in September 2015. Barrett also had surgery to have bone spurs in his ankle removed that year.

While rehabbing last season, Barrett suffered a setback in the form of a fracture in his right elbow in July. The injury led to his third surgery in less than a year.

Before his injuries, Barrett experienced success with Washington as a rookie in 2014. He had a 2.66 ERA in 50 games, striking out 49 in 40 2/3 innings. He then took a step back in 2015, posting a 4.60 ERA in 40 games while striking out 35 in 29 1/3 innings.
