Jazz training camp roster breakdown

The Utah Jazz open training camp with a full 20-man roster. Out of this group, 14 players have full salary protection for the 2016-17 season, while three have some guaranteed money and three have non-guaranteed deals. Here is the breakdown:

Full Salary Protection: Joel Bolomboy, Alec Burks, Boris Diaw, Dante Exum, Derrick Favors, Rudy Gobert, Gordon Hayward, George Hill, Rodney Hood, Joe Ingles, Joe Johnson, Trey Lyles, Shelvin Mack and Raul Neto

Partial Salary Protection: Quincy Ford, Marcus Paige and Henry Sims

No Salary Protection: Eric Dawson, Chris Johnson and Jeff Withey

Roster Outlook: The Jazz have nine players on the preseason roster who can play in the backcourt, so management will likely look to move at least one of them by a trade prior to the start of the regular season. If a trade doesn't get done, the team may just waive a guard who has a fully guaranteed salary for the season. Even though Withey's deal isn't guaranteed, he will make the Jazz roster when it's set in late October. Dawson, Ford, Johnson and Paige appear to be long-shots to make the regular season roster. Ford and Paige will likely start the 2016-17 season with Utah's D-League team, the Salt Lake City Stars, if they are waived.

2016-17 Salary Cap Outlook: The Jazz, if they don't make a trade, could open the regular season about $11.6 million under the salary cap and $32.5 million below the luxury tax line.
