The Charlotte Hornets signed forward Christian Wood last July to a minimum deal and the contract included a team option for the 2017-18 season. The Hornets had until Monday to pick up the option, and Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports the team decided to decline it.
Now that Wood is not under contract for next season, the Hornets are expected to pass on tendering him a qualifying offer by June 30, which will make him an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Wood, undrafted in 2015 after one season at UNLV, appeared in 13 games during the 2016-17 season and averaged 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds.
