Phoenix Suns backup point guard Tyler Ulis had surgery on May 10 to fix an issue with his right ankle. Ulis' rehab is going well, and he should be cleared for all basketball-related activities in the coming weeks. Since he needs more time to recover, Ulis won't play during the Las Vegas Summer League.

"My progress is great right now," Ulis told the Arizona Republic. "I'm on the right timetable. In a couple weeks, I should be able to get back on the court, do a little running and jumping, things like that. I just miss playing. I haven’t played in a long time. This is probably the longest I've gone being away from basketball."

Ulis played well during the last few months of his rookie season, averaging 13.2 points and 7.8 assist as the Suns held out Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight. When training camp opens in the fall, Ulis will compete with Knight for the main backup point guard position behind Bledsoe.

"This sets me back, but at the end of the day, I still have three months [to get ready for training camp]," Ulis said. "The season doesn’t start until October, so I have a lot of time to work."
